HOUSTON (May 23, 2025) – Houston Dynamo FC return to MLS action on Saturday May 24, traveling to the West Coast to face the San Jose Earthquakes at PayPal Park, with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CT. Dynamo fans can tune into the action live via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
The Dynamo are coming off back-to-back shutout victories in MLS play this month and are undefeated versus San Jose in their last three meetings. Over the course of Houston and San Jose’s storied history, the Dynamo hold a 19-10-4 (WLD) regular season record over the Earthquakes. In the most recent meeting at PayPal Park, Houston earned a 1-0 victory in the 86th minute behind a late goal from defender Daniel Steres.
Notably, Saturday’s match will feature a matchup between two of the top MLS coaches in league history, as Dynamo head coach Ben Olsen and Earthquakes head coach Bruce Arena both rank in the top ten of all-time MLS coaching wins. Olsen currently sits in seventh with 146 victories, while Arena is first with 267.
In regular season action, Houston is coming off a 2-0 road Texas Derby victory versus FC Dallas this past weekend. Defender Griffin Dorsey and midfielder Jack McGlynn, whose performances earned them MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday honors, each found the back of the net in the second half, while goalkeeper Jonathan Bond recorded three saves to help Houston earn their sixth clean sheet of the season. Notably, the result marked Houston’s first road win of the season and their first victory in Frisco since 2011.
Before the Dallas match, Houston defeated Minnesota United FC 2-0 at Shell Energy Stadium behind goals from defender Pablo Ortiz and Felipe Andrade to post back-to-back clean sheet victories.
Earlier this week, McGlynn was named to the U.S. Men’s National Team (USNMT) training camp roster in preparation for the upcoming June friendlies and 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. The camp will take place in Chicago beginning on June 1.
In regular season action, the Earthquakes are undefeated in their last six matches, most recently playing the New England Revolution to a scoreless draw. They currently sit eighth in the Western Conference with 18 points and a 5-6-3 (WLD) record. The attack has been led by Cristian Arango and Josef Martinez, who have combined for 15 goals this season.
Houston and San Jose met twice last season, with the Dynamo winning both matches. The Dynamo earned a 2-1 victory in Shell Energy Stadium before winning the season series with a 1-0 road victory in San Jose. Defender Franco Escobar scored the game-winning goal in the home victory, while Steres netted the lone goal in the road win. Notably, the victory in Shell Energy Stadium marked Houston’s 100th triumph in league play at the venue.
Additionally, Bond, during his time with the LA Galaxy, recorded 12 saves against the Earthquakes in a 1-0 shutout victory in 2021. The performance marked the second-most saves by a goalkeeper in a single game in Galaxy history, and the most ever in a shutout win for the club.
