HOUSTON (April 22, 2025) – Houston Dynamo 2 return to action this week, hitting the road to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Wednesday, April 23, at Swangard Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CT, and fans can tune in to the live action on MLSNEXTPro.com.
Wednesday’s match will feature a rematch from last season’s Decision Day, where Houston defeated Vancouver 3-1 to clinch a spot in the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro playoffs, marking the team’s third consecutive postseason berth. Midfielder and Dynamo 2 captain Diego Gonzalez, forward Gabe Segal and former Dynamo 2 player Isaiah Reid each contributed a goal in the decisive win.
Dynamo Dos closed a two-game homestand on April 6 with a 1-0 victory versus LAFC2 at SaberCats Stadium. Gonzalez, who was named March’s MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Month, netted the game winning goal in the 72nd minute, while the team secured their first clean sheet of the season behind six saves from goalkeeper Pedro Cruz.
Houston currently sits fifth in the Western Conference with nine points and a 3-2-0 (WLD) record.
Gonzalez, who was named the MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Month for March, now leads the team with three goals and sits third in the league with 17 key passes. Notably, Gonzalez was called up to the first team on a short-term loan for a road match against the LA Galaxy on April 12, marking his third of the season.
Vancouver enters this midweek clash sitting ninth in the Western Conference with seven points through five matches. The Canadian side has one win and one loss so far in April, including a 4-0 home victory versus Austin FC II in their most recent match and a 5-3 road loss to Tacoma Defiance. Forward Nelson Pierre leads the team’s attack with four goals on the season.
Sunday’s match will mark the first of two meetings between both sides this season, with Vancouver visiting Houston on July 17. Dynamo 2 holds the upper hand in the all-time series against Whitecaps 2, recording two wins and two draws in their previous five regular season encounters.
